I employed 200+ youth this summer, and the number of parents that would show up to work, call, or try to sit in was disturbing.

As an employer, the relationship is between the employee and company, and does not include the parents. Employers can hire starting at 14 without parent permission or involvement (although a school permit is needed for under 16).

I pondered how these youth would be better positioned in life if their parent(s) were this involved in their education. Parents would try to do the interview, complete paperwork, and have the most questions about pay (mind your business).

As an employer, it is not my role or inclination to make sure you know your child(ren) schedule, pay dates, salary or anything work related. Ask your child (ren). WE ARE NOT COPARENTS.

I had parents try to use their direct deposit, ID, SS Card, email and phone number in place of their child(ren). I wondered why they felt their child(ren) could not speak for oneself, which indicates a lack of trust and tells a lot to me as an employer.
