Cash is king. So when distributions come in under projection, silence is the worst response.

In this clip from Your CPA's Take on Real Estate, Daniel Roccanti lays out what investors need when a deal underperforms: transparency about what happened, a clear reason why, and a plan to get back on track.

Most investors can absorb a soft quarter. What they cannot absorb is finding out late, with no explanation and no path forward. That is how a temporary shortfall becomes a permanent trust problem.

Answer those questions before your investors have to ask them.

An audit takes time. It isn't cheap. So why go through one?

Because it delivers the highest level of confidence in your numbers. That matters when you receive significant federal or state funding, or when your bylaws or funders require it.

A review is a step down in scope and cost. No transaction testing. Just ratio analysis and questions on significant year over year changes. It gives limited assurance your statements make sense.
For many nonprofits, that's the right level. Mid-sized loans and grant applications often call for a review.

The question isn't which is better. It's which one your situation calls for.

Corinne LaRoche, CPA breaks it down in this clip from Nonprofit Accounting Explained. What do your funders ask for?

The 2024 ACA penalty letters are going out, and the dollar figures are catching Florida business owners off guard.

Good news: that number on IRS Letter 226J is usually not final. A big chunk of the penalties we see come down to filing errors, not actual coverage failures.

We help organizations understand what triggered the penalty, identify possible corrections and prepare a clear response. Our HR Solutions team has eliminated more than $5.8 million in ACA penalties for clients, close to 90% of what was assessed against them.

The one thing you can't do is wait. You typically have 30 days to respond to a 226J notice, and that window closes fast.

If a letter arrived, bring it to us before you write a check.

Learn how manufacturers can:
• Build forecasts that support strategic decisions instead of reacting to history
• Connect ERP, operations and financial data into meaningful dashboards

Today Corinne LaRoche, CPA, Partner and leader of our Nonprofit Services team, took the stage at the 2026 Florida Council on Aging Conference in Orlando to present "From Seat-Fillers to Strategic Partners: Building Boards That Advance Your Mission."

Corinne walked the room through common recruitment mistakes nonprofits make when filling board seats, along with what separates a board that simply commits to a mission from one that actively strengthens it. She also covered how to set clear expectations so board members contribute to governance, strategy, and community advocacy, not just meeting attendance.

Thank you to the Florida Council on Aging for the chance to be part of the conversation and to everyone who joined the session. Building the right board takes intention, not just good intentions, and we're glad to help aging services leaders across Florida think it through.

When someone asks your nonprofit for financial statements, do you know exactly what they're asking for?

An audit, review and compilation each serve a different purpose, and choosing the wrong one can mean unnecessary costs, delays or missed expectations from funders, lenders or your board. In the latest episode of Nonprofit Accounting Explained, we break down what each option includes, when it's typically required and how to determine which level of reporting is the right fit for your organization.

Whether you're preparing for a grant application, financing opportunity or your annual board meeting, understanding these differences can help you make informed decisions and use your resources wisely.

The days of 70% loan-to-value financing are behind us.

In this clip from Your CPA's Take on Real Estate, Daniel and Kyle break down a shift every property owner needs to understand: traditional lending has tightened, and many deals are now landing closer to 55% rather than the 70% benchmark of years past. The result? More properties are carrying multiple layers of debt to bridge the gap.

If your financing strategy was built around the old lending environment, it may be time to revisit your approach.

What makes investors say "yes" in today's real estate market?

It is not just a higher projected return.

With private real estate fundraising down significantly, investors are asking tougher questions before committing capital. They want realistic assumptions, a clear plan for downside risk, consistent communication, and confidence in the people behind the deal.

In our latest episode of Your CPA's Take on Real Estate, Daniel Roccanti and Kyle Paxton discuss what sponsors need to do to build trust, strengthen investor relationships, and stand out in a more selective market.

If you are raising capital in 2026 or planning your next investment, this conversation offers practical insights you can put to work right away.

Lending isn't just about the numbers. It's about relationships.

In this clip from Your CPA's Take on Real Estate, Kyle Paxton and Daniel Roccanti share why building strong connections with bankers matters just as much as making sure the math works. Banks lend to numbers, but they extend trust to people they know.

As a real estate owner, the relationships you build with lenders today can make all the difference when it's time to secure financing. A familiar face with a track record often gets more consideration than a new one walking through the door.
