Every Thursday, Drew joins fellow members of BNI to connect with other local business owners, learn from one another, and build relationships that strengthen our entire business community. Those weekly conversations have led to meaningful friendships, trusted referral partners, and valuable connections that ultimately benefit the clients we serve.

💰 Does your teenager need to file a tax return?

Many parents assume that because their child is young, taxes don't apply. In reality, a teenager may need to file a federal tax return depending on how much they earned and the type of income they received.

Some common situations that may require filing include:

✔️ Wages from a summer or part-time job (receiving a W-2)
✔️ Self-employment income of $400 or more (babysitting, lawn care, tutoring, pressure washing, etc.)
✔️ Taxes were withheld from a paycheck and they want to claim a refund
✔️ Significant unearned income (savings interest, capital gains, inheritence, etc.)

Summer jobs and side hustles are a great opportunity to teach budgeting, saving, and financial responsibility—but they can also create tax filing requirements.
