Hi, I'm Betsy! πŸ‘‹ I started Lake Champlain Bookkeeping because I wanted to help business owners spend less time worrying about their numbers and more time running the business they love, especially fellow women in business, who I know are often wearing every hat! I take pride in being thorough, responsive, and someone you can trust with the details, so you can focus on what you do best.

In the summer outside of work, I can be found biking, fishing, or spending time on the water with my family. Balancing work and family has taught me a lot about staying organized, and that's exactly what I bring to every client relationship.

If you're a female business owner looking for a bookkeeper who genuinely cares about your success, I'd love to connect. 🩷

🚩 Signs your QuickBooks Online needs some attention:

❌ Bank balances don't match what's actually in your account
❌ Personal and business expenses are mixed together
❌ You're behind on tax or payroll deadlines
❌ Bank accounts haven't been reconciled
❌ No monthly financial review happening

If any of these sound familiar, it might be time for a bookkeeping check-up.
Let's get your QBO back in shape! πŸ“Šβœ…

Noticing your expenses creeping up? πŸ“ˆ Here's what to do next:

βœ… Review your profit and loss report
βœ… Make sure all expenses are categorized correctly
βœ… Identify which categories have increased
βœ… Compare expenses to previous months
βœ… Look for software, subscriptions, or services you're no longer using
βœ… Review vendor pricing and contracts if needed
βœ… Adjust your prices if your costs have fundamentally increased

The sooner you identify what's driving the increase, the easier it is to take action. πŸ’‘

I can't believe we're through the year already!

A quick mid-year business check-in:
βœ… Are you on track to hit your revenue goals?
βœ… Have you reviewed your P&L recently?
βœ… Is your cash flow healthy?
βœ… Are your books up to date?

Six months down, six to go! Now is a great time to get things in order before year end!

πŸ“… Q3 is here! Are your books clean and up to date?

July is a great time to:

☐ Review your P&L from the first half of the year
☐ Check in on your budget vs. actual spending
☐ Confirm your Q3 estimated taxes are set (due September 15)
☐ Clean up any uncategorized transactions

Need help starting the second half of the year with clean books? I'm happy to help!

Friendly reminder: your personal and business finances should NEVER mix. 🚫

If you’re still running business expenses through your personal bank account, here’s what that’s costing you:

❌ Hours untangling transactions
❌ Missed deductions you can’t prove were business related expenses
❌ A more difficult time getting a business loan

Step 1: Open a dedicated business checking account.
Step 2: Everything business-related runs through it βœ…

Summer is in full swing! Is your bookkeeping keeping up? β˜€οΈ

Just like sunscreen, staying on top of your finances protects you from painful surprises later. Here are 3 quick summer bookkeeping habits for small business owners:

βœ”οΈ Reconcile your accounts regularly, at least monthly
βœ”οΈ Track mileage for every summer client meeting or delivery
βœ”οΈ Separate that tax savings fund now, before Q3 spending picks up

Implementing these small habits now will save you time later!

If you’re paying for anything business-related this summer, here’s your reminder:

πŸ“Έ Save the receipt!

A business lunch, office supplies, a new laptop, a professional development course are all potentially deductible but you need to keep the documentation.

Apps like Dext, Hubdoc or even a simple Google Drive folder work great.

Future-you (and your accountant!) will be grateful you did! πŸ˜€

🚨 REMINDER for small business owners 🚨

Q2 estimated tax payment is due June 15!

If you’re self-employed or your business pays quarterly estimates, don’t let this one sneak up on you during the summer rush!

What would you do with 5 extra hours a week?βŒ›

Most small business owners spend 5+ hours every week on bookkeeping tasks.

That’s 5 hours you could spend on:
β†’ Getting new clients
β†’ Improving your product or service
β†’ Actually taking a summer vacation

Professional bookkeeping isn’t just about clean records, it’s about buying back your time.
