🔒 Simple Ways to Protect Your Business

Financial fraud isn't just something that happens to "other" businesses, a few small habits can go a long way in keeping your business safe.

▪️ Reconcile your bank and credit card accounts every month
▪️ Review your statements and reports for unfamiliar transactions or unusual changes
▪️ Never give one person complete control over your finances, separate duties whenever possible
▪️ Double-check vendor and employee payment details before sending money
▪️ Watch for duplicate payments or duplicate invoices
▪️ Change your passwords regularly and turn on two-factor authentication for financial accounts

A little diligence now can save you a major headache later.

📅 Mark your calendar! Important tax deadline coming up on September 15:

▪️ Third quarter estimated tax payments are due for self-employed individuals and business owners who pay quarterly
▪️ Extended returns are due for Partnerships (Form 1065) and S Corporations (Form 1120-S) that filed for an extension

Now's the perfect time to review your books, make sure your records are up to date, and get ahead of the deadline instead of scrambling at the last minute!

🚗 A quick heads up if you use your personal vehicle for business!

Be sure you're using the correct mileage rate based on the date the miles were driven, this one's easy to miss!

Due to rising fuel prices, the IRS increased the standard business mileage rate for the remainder of 2026:

▪️ January 1 – June 30, 2026: $0.725 per mile
▪️ July 1 – December 31, 2026: $0.760 per mile

Small details like this can make a big difference when it comes to accurate reporting and maximizing your deductions.

A few QuickBooks Online features that can save you time! 💻

✅ Set up rules to auto-categorize repetitive expenses. If a vendor name contains "Zoom," QBO can automatically categorize it under Software and assign the payee for you.
✅ Sort your bank feed by Payee, Description, or Bank Detail to quickly group and review similar transactions.
✅ Use the QBO mobile app to snap and upload receipts on the go.
✅ Favorite the reports you check regularly, like Accounts Receivable, Profit & Loss, and Balance Sheet.
✅ Schedule reports to be sent to you automatically so you're never digging for the latest numbers.
