Mileage rates just got a mid-year update, and if you drive for work, this is worth your attention. The IRS raised the standard rates effective July 1, 2026, and the new numbers apply to every mile driven on or after that date.
Here's what's changing: if you drive for business, you can now count 76 cents per mile, up from the earlier 2026 rate. Medical or moving trips are now 23.5 cents per mile. Charitable driving stays at 14 cents per mile, since that rate is set by law rather than the IRS.
Because this is a mid-year update, it's worth keeping your mileage log split into two periods: miles driven before July 1 at the old rate, and miles driven on or after July 1 at the new rate.
A good mileage tracker makes this easy. We use an app called MileIQ to help track mileage accurately, and recommending tools like it is part of what we do for clients — we're always looking for technology that makes financial management simpler.
