📌Georgia: The state individual income tax reduced to a flat rate of 4.99%, retroactive to January 1, 2026. Taxable income now also excludes up to $1,750 of qualified overtime and cash tips.

📌Alabama: The temporary state sales tax suspension on groceries ended June 30, meaning the standard state sales and use tax once again applies to home-consumed food.

📌North Carolina: Mecklenburg County imposed an additional 1% local sales and use tax.

📌New Jersey: A fee ranging from $325 to $725 on employers of 50 or more people took effect for each employee receiving state Medicaid benefits.

The Taxpayer Advocate Service is urging certain taxpayers to file refund or protective claims by July 10, 2026, if they may qualify for COVID-era disaster relief refunds. Missing the deadline could mean losing the right to claim a refund.
