Short-term rental? It probably doesn’t belong on Schedule C.

A common Airbnb/VRBO myth: that rental income goes on Schedule C like a business. In most cases, it goes on Schedule E — which means no 15.3% self-employment tax.

Two things people mix up:
→ The “7-day rule” affects passive losses, not which schedule you file. Still Schedule E.
→ Schedule C only applies if you provide substantial services (daily housekeeping, meals, concierge — hotel/B&B style). Towels and Wi-Fi don’t count.

Get it right and you avoid an SE-tax bill you never owed.

Being there was something special — but what really got me was just being present in that space. The buzz, the conversations, the spontaneous connections happening in every corner of the room. Hearing from tech executives and entrepreneurs who are truly pushing boundaries was a highlight — but honestly, it was the people between the sessions that left the biggest impression on me.

I’m truly honored to be recognized as an Outstanding Entrepreneur by Texas Woman’s University and the TWU Merrilee Alexander Kick College of Business & Entrepreneurship.

Three years ago, when I first started my business, I never imagined I would one day be called an entrepreneur and let alone receive an award like this. What began as a simple idea turned into a journey of resilience, learning, and growth.

Entrepreneurship is tough. It comes with many breakdowns, constant pivoting, and moments that push you to your limits. There were times of uncertainty and self-doubt, but through persistence, support from incredible people, and a belief in what I was building, I kept going.

What made this moment even more special was having my daughter there, witnessing me receive this award. Sharing that experience with her meant everything. I wanted her to see that no matter how hard life gets, you can still build a life with purpose and courage.

This award reinforces what I have always believed: women are capable of extraordinary things. With hard work and dedication, we can all build, lead, and inspire.
