From The Millionaire Next Door: "Finding the “right” advisor is a difficult task for those of us who are not financial services industry insiders. As an example, doctors and lawyers that are actively practicing their craft must take an oath to do right by their clients. However, this is not the case with anyone serving clients in the financial services world."

Hiring a financial professional is one of the critical tasks of any Household CFO. Consider three basic questions when screening any potential advisor.

A retirement plan is more than a number. It is a vision for how you want to spend the next chapter of your life.

I encourage every family to think about retirement in three categories:

1. What do you want to DO? (Travel, serve, mentor, be with grandkids)
2. What do you want to GIVE? (Generosity does not retire)
3. What do you want to LEAVE? (Legacy, inheritance, charitable impact)

When you lead with purpose instead of a number, the planning becomes more meaningful and more motivating.

If you would like to start that conversation, I would love to help.

You can schedule a meeting with Flourish Financial Planning directly on our website, or leave a message and we will get back with you.

"Most important, fee-based advisers are not required to be fiduciaries. A fiduciary is legally bound to put their client's interests first. Instead, many fee-based financial advisers follow a loosely monitored "suitability" standard, which allows them to make recommendations so long as it's suitable for their client's goals, risk tolerance, and financial situation."

Find the right financial advisor for your needs with this comprehensive guide. Learn about credentials, fees, and questions to ask to make an informed decision.

If you have not reviewed your insurance coverage recently, now is a great time.

Life changes. Your coverage should change with it. A new baby, a new home, a career change, or a growing business can all create gaps in your protection.

Proverbs 27:12 says, "The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty."

Protecting your family is not about fear. It is about love and wisdom. Make sure the people who depend on you are covered.

Here is something I tell my clients often: 100% of your budget is the Lord's.

Sometimes we can think that we give 10% and then the other 90% is ours to do what we wish. But in reality, all of it belongs to God. The giving portion, the savings, the groceries, the mortgage.

We are stewards of all of it.

This does not mean we cannot enjoy the good gifts God gives us. It means we hold everything with open hands, grateful for the provision and mindful of the purpose.

"My practical advice is to keep your heart and have a plan. Your heart should have a healthy fear of the love of money. But it should also have a noble vision for how creating capital can lift up others and advance the kingdom."

We asked 12 writers and theologians to outline their theology of money, along with practical advice on how to manage it.

Myth #4: At “This” Level I Will Be Content “If income is important to you, then income is actually less satisfying as income goes up than if income is not important to you,” -Matthew Monnot ow.ly/QqHq50wOI3M

Joy is the engine of sacrifice.

Frederick Bruner writes that about Matthew 13:44, where the man finds treasure in a field and sells everything he has to buy the field. He does it "in his joy."

Not duty. Not obligation. Not guilt. Joy.

This is the secret to generosity. It is not about trying harder to give more. It is about seeing the surpassing worth of knowing Christ.

When Jesus becomes our greatest treasure, everything else we hold becomes lighter. Easier to share. Easier to release.

I wrote more about this parable here:

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” Matthew 13:44 This one sentence parable has been on my mind quite a bit recently. Jesus shares back-to-back parables (this and the ...

"As our focus becomes developing financial independent or comfort in our finances, we don't see that we've created less dependence on God and His providence. When we feel in control of our financial situation, we can forget our need and dependence on God."

Money is a powerful, yet dangerous tool. If stewarded well, it can be used to fund great, eternal purposes, but it can just as easily lead to false idols. Through community and accountability in our personal financial situation we can break the power of money over our lives and better direct our wea
