This is not only a gut punch to black people but it should be an offense to all decent people! We need answers!

While I know the fires in LA were horrific, and I know that the fire department and law enforcement did everything they could given the unrelenting Santa Ana winds, what I just read in the LA Times took my breath away.

It took me a while to stop shaking after reading this article. The thought that the people of western Altadena—historically a Black neighborhood—did not receive proper warnings about the fire danger has left a knot in the pit of my stomach.

This explains why the highest number of casualties were in western Altadena. While friends of mine from very wealthy areas received notices well in advance, if what the LA Times is reporting is true (and I have no reason to doubt it), the Black and Brown communities of Altadena received warnings hours later, by which point the fires were already on top of them.

How is this possible in America in 2025? How could this kind of oversight be made?

This feels all too reminiscent of the racial horrors my grandparents told me about.

No matter what your race is, I think WE ALL should be demanding answers!
