This is what it takes behind the scenes to run a 6 person tax and accounting firm in a remote and centralized environment that is highly secured, backed up and super fast. I admire and can’t thank my IT support team enough. They keep us running 24/7.

This has been a tax season for the books. I have been preparing tax returns since 1986 and this has been the most stressful one of all. My husband, Harry, reminds me that I have been saying that every year, and I know I have since 2014 for sure. I keep thinking it can't get any worse, and I PRAY I am right for next tax season. From a 3 week delay in starting tax season and interim 3 week delay for state filings, our 12 week season was desimated. And with our staff with children working only 50% of their hours so they could homeschool their children didn't help. But we got through it, not with the level of service that I strive for, but we worked as long and hard as we could. So, I am closing the office Thursday and Friday, May 20 - 21, 2021. We will be back on Monday, rejuvenated and raring to go to get the returns completed. We thank you for your understanding. Have a wonderful weekend! If you have an immediate need, email me at [email protected].

Here we go again! It appears that the "extensive changes" to the Maryland tax forms may not be available until April 15th so all tax filings will be extended to July 15, 2021. Once we understand that details of the extension, we will share the information with you.

Franchot Extends State Income Tax Filing Deadline to July 15.

For those of you wondering where your 2019 refund is or why your return wasn't processed, the IRS has a backlog of 6.7 million 2019 tax returns that have yet to be processed. Issuing the economic stimulus payments have consumed a great deal of IRS resources, impacting their ability to process tax returns. And the start of tax season was delayed by three weeks.

Leaders of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee are sounding the alarm over the slow start to tax season, reflected in the initial week of data from the IRS.

The ongoing saga of notices being sent to taxpayers during the pandemic because of unprocessed returns and payments, implementing new stimulus programs in days and staffing challenges from COVID. The extension of filing deadlines created a huge backlog of returns to be processed between 7/15/2020 to 10/15/2020. The AICPA is working diligently to streamline the process for CPAs to work with the IRS to deal with all of the notices. It is time-consuming and frustrating for all.

The Internal Revenue Service mistakenly sent letters to many taxpayers saying it would be reducing their Economic Impact Payments to pay off the taxes they owed.

What an unending tax season this was! Our office will be closed Monday, 11/23/20 through Sunday 11/29/20 to give our team a chance to recuperate from 10 months of very long hours. We will check emails and phone messages periodically.

We thank our team, family members and clients for their patience and understanding. Thank you for allowing us to provide accounting and tax services to you and your businesses. We also appreciate everyone's acceptance of the changes we had to make for everyone's safety and respect for the CDC COVID guidelines. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

This is good news that the IRS will work with taxpayers to resolve tax debt stemming from the pandemic. Hopefully, they will increase the resources available to CPAs and EAs so we can resolve taxes due expeditiously. We are still waiting for the automated notices related to the estimated 3 million pieces of unopened mail (tax returns, payments, replies to notices, etc.) to be turned off. It is creating panic for taxpayers and draining tax professional's time trying to deal with these notices to no avail because of the lack of IRS resources. The IRS is dealing with COVID-19 in their offices too. We all just have to hang in there, stay calm and be patient. Wear a mask, wash your hands and maintain a safe distance.

The IRS said it was revising its procedures to help taxpayers who cannot pay their taxes because of the pandemic. The new program is called the Taxpayer Relief Initiative.
