Ten years ago we left Morgan Stanley with just over $100 million. This month WellFull crossed $1 billion.

When we started, the goal was simple: build something that served clients first in a part of life that is genuinely important and often complicated. That has never changed.

The biggest thank you goes to our clients. We are in a business where markets are volatile, and a lot is outside our control. What is always in our control is how we show up for the people who trust us. That is what we try to get right every single day.

Market Commentary

The Federal Reserve did not meet in August, but monetary policy still dominated the month. Yields on the longest-dated Treasurys climbed to levels not seen in decades, driven by concerns about the size of the national debt, inflation that remains above target, and a Fed that now deliberately offers less guidance than markets are accustomed to. In a surprise move, the Treasury Department announced it would sharply expand its buybacks of long-dated bonds to steady the market. At the same time, the economic data handed the Fed a genuine dilemma. During a time when corporate profits continue to increase, the monthly jobs report showed the economy unexpectedly shed jobs, with prior months revised meaningfully lower, the clearest sign yet that hiring has stalled...

There is a moment in most families when a child or a younger family member is clearly ready to take financial life seriously, and there is no obvious place to point them.

Launch Pad was built for exactly that moment. It is a structured process that works through the full financial picture with a wealth coach guiding the way: cash flow, savings, insurance, taxes, and estate planning, all addressed together rather than one piece at a time when something comes up.

If someone in your life is in that window, we would be glad to have a conversation with them. The link in the first comment has the full overview.

When markets drop, the instinct is to focus on the number. This is the analogy we use with clients to reframe that and why cash flow is a more useful lens than portfolio value during a volatile period. ⬇️

There are three ways to protect against long-term care costs financially. Most families have not thought through which one fits their situation. We like to start here.

From a tax perspective, the worst asset to give to charity is cash.

Highly appreciated stock, a business interest, and real estate are all assets worth considering first, and here’s why:
⇒ You eliminate the capital gains liability.
⇒ The charity receives the full value.
⇒ You can reinvest the cash into the same position with a stepped-up basis.

The gift does not have to be smaller. It just has to be structured thoughtfully.

A Transfer on Death (TOD) designation on an individual, non-retirement account lets it pass directly to a named beneficiary, bypassing probate for a faster, more private transfer - and the beneficiary has no access or control until passing.

That said, it's not a set-it-and-forget-it fix. A TOD overrides your will, so if the two don't align, the TOD wins for that account - it needs to be coordinated with your broader estate plan, not set up on its own. And since TOD assets skip probate, they also skip the pool typically used to cover debts, taxes, and final expenses, so it's worth making sure other assets are available for those costs.

A TOD can be a smart piece of the puzzle, but how it fits with your will and full picture depends on your situation. Feel free to reach out anytime and we can review your accounts together.

Here are three things every 30-something should have in place before life gets any busier:

1) A budget that actually reflects where your money is going.

2) An emergency fund that sits behind your checking account and does not get touched.

3) Automated saving and investing that runs without a decision every month.

Get those three right, and you are ahead of the curve. This is exactly the kind of foundation Launch Pad is built to help you put in place.

The answer is not usually a multiple of your salary or a number you picked years ago. It starts with one question: what income would your family need if you were not here? If your current coverage has not been reviewed in a while, it may be worth revisiting.
