The IRS has postponed the federal tax deadline for all 82 Mississippi counties to June 8, 2026, for individuals and businesses affected by the Jan. 23, 2026, severe winter storm
This relief extends deadlines for filing returns and making tax payments, including 2025 income tax returns and quarterly payroll tax deposits, to June 8, 2026
Key Details for Mississippi Taxpayers:
New Deadline: June 8, 2026, for all federal individual and business returns/payments that fell between Jan. 23 and June 8, 2026.
Coverage: All 82 Mississippi counties qualify for this relief.
Automatic Relief: The IRS automatically identifies taxpayers in the covered disaster area, so filers do not need to call the IRS to apply for the extension.
Penalties: Penalties on qualified payroll and excise tax deposits due on or after Jan. 23 and before Feb. 9, 2026, will be abated if the deposits were made by Feb. 9, 2026.
State Taxes: Mississippi is matching the federal extension to June 8, 2026.
If a taxpayer receives a late filing penalty notice from the IRS for a deadline within this period, they should call the number on the notice to have the penalty removed.
