Before I started my business, I thought taxes were something I’d figure out later. Turns out, understanding the basics early can save you a lot of stress (and money).
Here are a few things I wish I knew before starting:
1. Your business type affects how you’re taxed.
2. Don’t mix your personal and business money.
3. Keep every receipt—you’ll thank yourself later.
4. Not all income is yours to spend; set aside money for taxes.
5. Some business expenses can help lower your tax bill.
6. Missing deadlines can lead to penalties.
7. If you hire people, you’ll have extra tax responsibilities.
8. Online businesses still need to pay taxes.
9. Good bookkeeping makes everything easier.
10. Getting help from an accountant is an investment, not just an expense.
You don’t need to be a tax expert on day one. Just learn the basics, stay organized, and build good habits from the start. 🙌
