⛏️ Do you have a piece of Helena's mining history tucked away at home?
Helena began with a gold strike, and mining has shaped our community ever since. Now the Lewis and Clark County Historical Society is developing a new mining exhibit at the Helena History Center, and we need your help bringing the story to life!
We're looking for donations of mining-related artifacts, especially smaller, hand-held items such as:
• Picks, hammers, and drill steels
• Gold pans and sluice tools
• Miners' lamps, candlesticks, and lanterns
• Assay tools and ore samples
• Lunch pails, canteens, and work gear
• Mining-era photographs, documents, and mementos
Unfortunately, we don't have room for large equipment, but even a small tool passed down through your family could help us tell the story of the men and women who built this place.
Think of the garage, the attic, the shed, or the box of Grandpa's things you've never quite known what to do with. If it's connected to mining in our area, we'd love to hear about it!
📞 To offer an item or ask questions, message us here, call us, or stop by the Helena History Center. Our staff will talk with you about the item's history and whether it fits the exhibit.
Please share this post with friends and family who might have a piece of our mining heritage!
