Prairie Band, LLC Breaks Ground on New Travel Plaza to Serve Drivers and Community
Mayetta, KS — Prairie Band, LLC is proud to announce the groundbreaking of a new state-of-the-art travel plaza and truck stop, set to bring expanded services, convenience, and economic opportunity to the region. Groundbreaking ceremonies took place on September 30th.
The planned 12,000 square-foot facility will be located on US Highway 75 at the 150th Road off-ramp in Jackson County, Kansas, offering professional drivers, travelers, and local residents a full range of amenities, including:
• A modern fueling station with multiple diesel and gasoline pumps
• Full-service convenience store and quick-serve dining options
• Ample truck parking with dedicated amenities for long-haul drivers
• Clean, spacious restrooms and shower facilities
• EV charging stations
• Daily traffic volume of approximately 13,000 vehicles, including 1,700 commercial trucks
• Strategic location along US 75, a key north-south corridor through northeast Kansas
• Proximity to a major tribal tourism hub — including the Prairie Band Casino & Resort and Firekeeper Golf Course, boosting regional traffic and economic synergy
“This project represents a generational investment in both our infrastructure and our people,” said Jacob Wamego, Prairie Band, LLC CEO. “The new travel plaza will not only serve as a vital stop for truckers and travelers but will also create new jobs and support local businesses.”
Major site preparation and underground utility infrastructure (water, sewer, storm) are already underway, with completion anticipated in the first quarter of 2027. Once operational, the facility is expected to create 30 permanent jobs and generate new streams of revenue that will directly benefit the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and surrounding community.
The travel plaza is part of the broader 150/75 Development Project, a multi-phase initiative designed to strengthen economic growth, expand regional commerce, and provide modern infrastructure for future generations.
