Have you received all of your W2s or 1099s for this tax season?
Need help? Contact Lee Tax Service, LLC at (803) 466-3922 or www.CallLeeTax.com.
Takes these steps now......
1. Check your email: Mailing W2s or tax statements out is a thing of the past. You should check your email, including junk and spam folders. Some employers and retirement companies will email you to alert you that you can find your tax statements on the business websites or, in employer cases, via your employees' intranet.
2. Contact the issuing employer or payer: If you have no luck with the electronic double-check, then it's time to make contact. Do the same if you got a W-2 that's wrong, and ask for a corrected copy.
The same outreach applies to missing 1099s, notably the DIV, MISC, and NEC (non-employee comp) varieties.
3. Call the IRS: The IRS says that if you still haven't received your original or corrected tax documents, especially a W-2, by the end of February, you should call the Internal Revenue Service at (800) 829-1040. After your alert, the IRS will contact the employer/payer and request the missing or corrected form. You will need your last pay stub or distribution statement as it will have information the IRS needs to contact your employer or payer.
