The IRS warns of an evolving digital assets scam where fraudsters are sending fake IRS letters that direct you to enroll your cryptocurrency in a “Digital Asset Compliance Portal” by a certain deadline. No such portal exists.

If you receive this notice, do not scan the QR code or provide any personal or financial information. Scammers are trying to steal your information and digital assets.

Louisiana Business Owners – Important Law Change Effective August 1, 2026

If your business charges a processing fee for card payments, now is the time to make sure your point-of-sale system is configured correctly.

Louisiana Act 751 prohibits businesses from charging a surcharge on debit card transactions.

✅ Credit card surcharge – May be allowed if done correctly and in compliance with applicable rules.

❌ Debit card surcharge – Not allowed in Louisiana as of August 1, 2026.

If you use Clover, Square, Toast, or any other payment system, contact your payment processor and verify that debit cards are automatically excluded from any surcharge.

Do not assume your system is set up correctly. A quick phone call today could save you from customer complaints and potential penalties tomorrow.
