A Real Talk About Prediction Markets and Your Money
Prediction markets are becoming impossible to avoid. You've seen the ads. Polymarket, Kalshi, and platforms like them are everywhere. They're positioned as a smart way to "forecast the future" and potentially make money doing it.
Here's what I want you to know: I think you should skip them. Not because you're not smart enough. Because your money is too valuable.
Let me break down why:
- The Business Model
Prediction market platforms make money on transaction volume. They profit whether you win or lose. Every buy. Every sell. That's how they stay profitable. And it's why they're spending heavily on marketing to reach younger people with disposable income.
- The Real Cost
$100 spent on prediction markets is $100 that didn't go into your emergency fund, your retirement account, or any tool that actually builds financial control. When you're building wealth from scratch, every dollar matters.
- The Better Path
You don't need to forecast election outcomes to build genuine wealth. You need to earn, spend less than you earn, invest that difference, and repeat. It's not as exciting as prediction markets, but it compounds over time in ways a quick win never will.
I'm not here to judge anyone who uses prediction markets. But I am here to tell you: your financial energy is better invested in building actual control over your financial future.
If you've been curious about prediction markets or tempted to try them, I'd love to talk through a more grounded approach to your financial goals.
