here's what you can do today:

✅ File your return
✅ File a free extension (gives you until october 15 to FILE — not to pay)
✅ make a payment at irs.gov/payments — even a partial payment reduces penalties

IF you owe money — paying something today matters.
Penalties and interest start tomorrow regardless of whether you filed an extension.

✔ April 15 — Deadline to file your federal return OR request an extension
✔ Filing an extension gives you until October 15 — but it does NOT extend the time to PAY
✔ If you owe money, penalties and interest start April 16 — extension or not

So even if you can't file by Tuesday, please file an extension and pay what you can.
