If you are denied a tax advance by one preparer, you are very likely to be denied again if you go elsewhere.

🚨 Here’s why:

💡Many tax preparers use the same bank to offer tax advances. Applying again doesn’t change the decision.

💡In most cases, a credit inquiry has already been recorded, and the bank can see that you were recently denied.

💡Switching preparers can also create issues with who the IRS accepts first to file your return, which may delay processing altogether.

Before reapplying, it’s best to understand why the advance was denied and address the issue rather than submitting multiple applications.

💡 Tax Talk: “No Tax on Overtime” — What It REALLY Means

You may have heard people talking about “no tax on overtime” and wondered what that actually means for your paycheck 👀

Here’s the breakdown ⬇️

✅ It would apply to federal income tax only
✅ ONLY overtime pay would be tax-free — not your regular wages

Example:
If you earn overtime at time-and-a-half, the extra OT portion could be excluded from federal income tax — meaning more take-home pay 💵

⚠️ Keep in mind:
• Social Security & Medicare taxes would still apply
• State taxes may still apply
• Overtime would still be reported to the IRS

👷🏽‍♀️ This would mainly benefit hourly workers who regularly work overtime.

📌 Bottom line:
This does not mean overtime is completely tax-free —

📣 2025 Child Tax Credit Breakdown (For Taxes Filed in 2026)

Here’s what families need to know this tax season 👇🏽

💵 New Credit Amount
➡️ For the 2025 tax year, the Child Tax Credit is worth up to $2,200 per qualifying child under age 17 — that’s up from $2,000 in prior years!

💸 Refundable Portion
➡️ Up to $1,700 per child may be refundable after your tax liability is reduced to zero. That means even if you don’t owe much in tax, you could still get money back.
IRS

👶 Who Qualifies?
✔️ Child must be under 17 at the end of the tax year
✔️ Child must be your dependent
✔️ You and the child must both have a valid Social Security Number (SSN) for the credit (this changed recently)

🔔 If your dependent is age 17 or older, they do not qualify for the Child Tax Credit.
However, you may still be eligible for the Credit for Other Dependents (ODC) — up to $500 per qualifying dependent.
