A question was posed a few days ago in one of the online business communities I'm a member, and it's been on my mind ever since.

"When you think about having a financially healthy business, what comes to mind? How would you describe it?"

Of course, as an accountant and serial entrepreneur, this type of discussion is my jam, so I weighed in with what I thought, but I would love to hear your perspective.

For me, I would describe a financially healthy business as one that has healthy cashflow (more income than expenses), at least six months to a year of cash savings and room to take advantage of new income-generating opportunities as they arise.

A business that's up-to-date on all state and federal reporting obligations.

Most of all, a business where the owner has the ability to enjoy the fruits of their labor in a way that brings them joy.

No matter where you are in business, getting to that point, getting healthy all starts with being intentional in your finances.
