The Child Tax Credit is non-refundable.
It can only reduce tax liability down to zero.

The Additional Child Tax Credit is refundable.
It can be paid to the taxpayer as a refund even when no tax is owed.

The maximum Child Tax Credit is $2,000 per qualifying child, but only up to $1,600 of that can be refunded if you don’t owe taxes.

📊 2026 Standard Deduction Amounts (Federal)
These are the standard deductions most taxpayers will use if they do not itemize:
• Single / Married Filing Separately: $14,600
• Head of Household: $21,900
• Married Filing Jointly / Qualifying Surviving Spouse: $29,200

These amounts are adjusted annually for inflation and directly impact how much of your income is taxable.

📌 Why This Matters
Your filing status and deduction choice can significantly affect your refund or balance due. What looks “small” on paper can mean thousands of dollars over the course of a tax return.

If you’re unsure how these updates apply to your situation—or if your income, dependents, or household changed—professional guidance matters.

💳 Paper Checks Are Being Phased Out
The IRS is strongly discouraging paper refund checks. Direct deposit is now the preferred (and often fastest) method to receive refunds. Taxpayers without a bank account may use IRS-approved debit cards or electronic payment platforms. Choosing electronic delivery reduces delays, lost checks, and fraud risk.

The IRS has released updated standard mileage rates, and even small changes can impact deductions and reimbursements.

Starting January 1, 2026:
✅ 72.5¢ per mile for business use (up 2.5¢)
✅ 20.5¢ per mile for medical use (down 0.5¢)
✅ 20.5¢ per mile for moving expenses for eligible military and intelligence members
✅ 14¢ per mile for charitable use (unchanged)

The business rate reflects rising operating costs, while medical and moving rates track only variable expenses. Choosing between the standard mileage rate and actual costs can materially change the deduction.
Once you use the standard mileage rate in the first year, it limits future flexibility. For leased vehicles, that choice applies for the entire lease term.

Small update. Real tax impact.
Navigate the changes with TaxGPT.
