🚨 Important IRS Change Coming September 30, 2025 🚨
Big change ahead: the federal government will stop issuing or receiving paper checks for most payments starting September 30, 2025. This is going to be a phased process and not an abrupt cutoff.
Here’s what you need to know:
⸻
✅ What’s Changing
• No more paper checks for most federal disbursements.
• No more accepting paper checks for payments to the government, including tax payments, as electronic payments become the standard.
• There are limited exceptions for people who don’t have access to bank accounts or electronic payment systems, emergencies, etc.
⸻
⚠️ What You Should Do
• If you currently receive any payments from the government by paper check (refunds, benefits, etc.), switch to an electronic option like direct deposit or a government-debit card.
• If you make payments to the IRS (estimated payments, etc.), use an electronic payment method (IRS Direct Pay, EFTPS, etc.).
• Be aware of scams! Only use official government sites or agencies when making these changes or providing payment info.
⸻
💡 Why It’s Changing
• Electronic payments are more secure, faster, and less prone to fraud or loss.
• Paper checks cost more and take longer to process.
