I was honored to be featured in the August issue of Lake Norman Currents as part of their Women in Leadership feature.
One thing I shared in the article really sums up how I approach this profession: financial planning is personal. The numbers matter, but so do the experiences and beliefs about money that we grow up with.
I definitely didn’t grow up in a family that believed in investing. My parents were hardworking business owners, but their idea of financial security was investing back into their business and literally hiding cash in the walls. There wasn’t much of a backup plan outside of the business.
Because of that, I had to educate myself about investing before I could really believe in it myself. The more I learned, the more I realized how much our financial decisions are shaped by what we grow up seeing and experiencing.
That journey is a big part of why I approach financial planning the way I do today. I don’t expect someone to automatically understand or feel comfortable with investing, retirement planning, or making major financial decisions. Sometimes education has to come before confidence.
I’m grateful that my career gives me the opportunity to help other people build that confidence and create a financial plan that gives them options, not just for today, but for whatever life brings next.
Thank you, Lake Norman Currents, for including me alongside some incredible local women! Lake Norman Currents Magazine
