I got that wonderful email today about my updated Social Security statement since it’s getting closer to my birthday. I urge all of you to review your earnings and the benefit estimates on there. It’s really depressing when I review mine because I might be able to retire on Social Security if I work until I’m 70!!! 🙄 It’s a good thing I made other plans though because I just don’t see me working that long.

Start investing today. It’s never too late. I love that my son started at sixteen with a Roth. I wish I had started that early. My first wages recorded were in 1994. I just didn’t have that vision at the time that Hayden has.

How long have you been in Huntingdon?
Melanie began her accounting career in 1999 and opened her own firm, Strop CPA Firm, P.C., in 2016.

Why HSBA?
"My reason for joining was to network and introduce different small businesses to each other and hopefully work together to make Huntingdon a destination that people want to not only visit, but raise families here as well."

I’ve been in the spot where giving up working weekends was worth more than the money I was making doing it. Missing out on family time and events wasn’t worth the income. Sometimes though it is a matter of looking at your personal and business expenses if you own your own business. We get in the habit of just going with what we know and are used to doing and don’t look for alternatives or ways to cut back. I love budgets and analyzing overhead and operating expenses. If you need a fresh set of eyes on your situation, give me a call. I’d be happy to look at things for you! As I always say, let me do what I’m good at where you can have more money in your pockets.

The IRS updated the standard mileage rate for the second half of 2026. 76 cents starting July 1!

Thanks for your patience while I took a week off to spend with my family. I believe everyone should take a week a year to regroup, rest and enjoy your people without working.

This week’s schedule is a little different from my norm as I have several meetings out of the office. It is:

Monday 10-4 with an hour off for lunch
Tuesday: 10-4 with an hour off for lunch
Wednesday: closed
Thursday: 9-4 with an hour off for lunch
