Money will only make you more of what you already are. – T. Harv Eker
I’ve been thinking a lot about this quote lately and the human characteristics of being selfless and giving (specifically financially). It’s so easy to say “I’ll be a generous person when I have more money” And my response to that is… at what point do you have enough money to be generous?
A lie that is too easy to believe is that somehow more money will make you more knowledgeable, more courageous, more kind, etc etc etc. Sure, more money can change what you do or buy. But at the end of the day you will still be the same person with the same characteristics no matter how many zeros show up in your bank account.
If you were a generous person while making $20k a year, you’re probably still going to be a generous person while making $200k a year. Yes, the amount that you give will more than likely change but that characteristic inside of you remains constant regardless of your tax bracket.
Your habits matter. YOUR MINDSET MATTERS. I can guarantee you that someone making less money than you do right now is giving more than you do. And I don’t say that to make anyone feel bad. I say that actually for the opposite reason. Isn’t it motivating to think about how much others are giving especially considering their own state of poverty?
There are those people who freak out about spending an extra $20 on whatever but yet they have no problem forking out over $20 eating out for one night. Of which they will have nothing to show for and will literally p**p out the next day and flush it down the toilet. So it isn’t about how much money is in your account. We need to stop using that as an excuse. There really is no dollar amount or income level you have to hit in order to be a giver.
So how about we just… start now. Even if it’s $1. If we can shift our thoughts away from the scarcity mentality and instead, think and believe that success has ALREADY found you and you already have something valuable to offer, I believe your life will drastically change overnight. If you want to be a giver, absolutely nothing in this world is holding you back from being exactly that. And to me, that is inspiring.
