This year, on October 10th, Kanani Advisory Group is running in honor of Joshua Torres, a friend of our team member, Cassie Lomen, whose strength and spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Josh passed away last year after a long and courageous fight with Ewing Sarcoma. He battled for years, beat it once, and when it returned, he faced it again with the same grit, humor, and heart that defined him. Even in the hardest moments, Josh made it his mission to protect the people around him, if tears started, he’d jump in with a joke or a story to brighten the room. That blend of humor and compassion was simply who he was.
Josh worked for United Airlines, a job that let him see the world. He explored new places, met new people, and collected experiences he carried with him everywhere he went. Travel wasn’t just something he did, it was part of his joy, his curiosity, and his way of embracing life fully. And no matter where he was, one thing never changed: his love for the Dodgers. Last year, he even got to watch the Dodgers in the World Series, a moment that meant the world to him.
Josh’s journey reminds us why this mission matters. We run for him, for the families still fighting, and for the research that gives people more time, more chances, and more tomorrows.

This year, as the UC Irvine Anti Cancer Challenge celebrates its 10th anniversary on Saturday, October 10th, Kanani Advisory Group is proud to share that team member Shadi Louyeh is dedicating her run to Roya Mirza, her beloved aunt, whose strength and story continue to inspire our team every day.
Roya moved to the U.S. in 1972. As a single mother in a new country—navigating unfamiliar cultures, learning a new language, and supporting her children—she walked through some of life’s hardest moments and still found a way to keep going. She endured battles no one should ever have to face, and she did it with a bravery that left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Her resilience taught us what hope truly is—and how it gives you the power to push through. It’s the reason our team is committed to supporting families who are fighting today.
The Anti Cancer Challenge funds innovative research and early phase clinical trials at the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and CHOC—research that gives families more time, more options, and more hope. It mattered for Aunt Roya, and it matters for every person still fighting.

This year, as the UC Irvine Anti Cancer Challenge celebrates its 10 year anniversary, Kanani Advisory Group is proud to support team member Cassie Nori Lomen , who is participating with one very special person at the center of her heart: her mother, Veronica Camp.

Our team runs/rides and fundraises in honor of several loved ones affected by cancer. Today we want to highlight Veronica’s story. She bravely battled breast cancer and won. Her victory was made possible through her strength, her resilience, and the lifesaving advancements that ongoing cancer research continues to provide. Her journey reminds us why this mission matters and why the work toward better treatments and cures must continue.

Her courage strengthens our team’s commitment to supporting the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and CHOC. These institutions lead innovative research, pilot projects, and early phase clinical trials that bring hope to families every day.
