As we close out Dyslexia Awareness month, I reflect on what it means to me that society is opening up to the understanding that not everyone learns the same.

Dyslexia is a language-based learning hurdle that mostly effects spelling, writing, or pronouncing words; and has nothing to do with lack of intelligence or desire to learn. Though it is true that the traditional academic learning style proves to be more difficult for those who have dyslexia, most are gifted and find careers in art (like Andy Warhol or Mackenzie Thorpe), computer sciences (Cliff Weizman, the father of text-to-speech), drama (like Keira Knightley, Tom Cruise, and Whoopi Goldberg), mechanics (John Britten, designer of racing motorcycles), music (like Cher, Gwen Stefani, and Joss Stone), sales (like Richard Branson or Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of IKEA) and sports (like Magic Johnson and Tim Tebow). Since dyslexia impacts roughly 1 in 5 people, it has no boundaries when it comes to backgrounds, culture, or field of study.

Like our team, diverse in experience, I am proud of my ability to bring diversity of thinking to benefit our clients, our business practices and to help w**d out the distractors flashing on our phones each day. My toolkit, the one that started with Mrs. Dykema in 3rd grade is one that supports big-picture thinking, problem-solving, and motivation to get into the thick of it.

With early detection on the rise, I am hopeful that the struggles that almost a 5th of our society deals with will create more positive learning experiences than those of the past; which will gift our society more resilient, resourceful and adaptable professionals of the future. ❤️❤️

Our team had a great time attending the Amelia Cruizers Car Show this past Saturday! 🚗

Beyond the incredible vehicles on display, we were excited to support a club that gives back to our community. Events like these bring people together while helping raise awareness and support for local charities and nonprofits, including Micah's Place, America's Youth, and many others.
