Warning signs when clients report they've received:

A refund even though they haven't filed a return.
A tax transcript they didn't request.
Emails or calls from the tax pro that they didn't initiate.
A notice that someone created an IRS online account for the taxpayer without their consent.
A notice the taxpayer wasn't expecting that:

Should you file an innocent spouse or injured spouse along with your tax return.

Let's start with innocent spouse:
Did you get a letter from the IRS claiming you owe money?
I am being audited.
I have a tax lien.
I have a tax levy.
Errors made by a spouse on a joint return. (unreported income or a high deduction)
Understatement of tax responsibility
Must have no knowledge of the error
I have not yet filed for a previous year.
And/Or
Next you should file an injured s***e return when:

The injured spouse should file injured spouse to get back their share of the joint refund is applied to a past due obligation.

I just wanted to let you know that the IRS will start accepting Income Tax Returns on January 28th even though the Government is shut down. These workers are evidently committed to their jobs since they are working without pay.
