"Mind your business?" Bestie, I am! 🀭

My job is to help business owners avoid looking at their bank balance one day, thinking they can afford to hire another employee, buy new equipment, or make a big investmentβ€”only to realize later they don't have enough cash to pay themselves or cover their tax bill. πŸ™ƒ

That's why bookkeeping matters.

It's not just something you do for your CPA at tax time.

It's how you:

πŸ“Š Understand your profitability.
πŸ’° Monitor your cash flow.
πŸ“ˆ Make confident business decisions.
🧾 Stay prepared for tax season.
🎯 Plan for growth without unnecessary financial stress.

Your bank balance only tells part of the story.

Your financial reports tell you whether your business is truly healthy.

And that's the kind of clarity every business owner deserves. πŸ’™

I would loooove to mind my own business...

Unfortunately, that involves telling business owner in the TikTok comments section that just because their favorite influencer says they can write off their coffee shop work session doesn't make it true!!!

My business is making sure business owner know exactly which expenses can legally lower their tax bill + building them long-term tax savings strategies. πŸ’°

Don't get me wrong, a bank statement is a great start!

But all it really proves is that you spent money... it doesn't tell anyone what you spent that money for or if it truly was a business expense.

The IRS (and me, tbh) usually needs a little more context (like a receipt or invoice) that shares what you bought + that it was for your business.

Sooo, there's some money that hits your account that the IRS ~doesn't~ want a part of?!

It's called nontaxable income, and it comes in the form of certain child support payments, gifts, inheritances, life insurance proceeds, workers' comp, qualifying scholarships, and more!

Here's the catch: even if you think the money isn't taxable, your [your title] still needs to know about it. πŸ‘€

Related transactions like selling an inherited asset or using money from your scholarship to pay for room + board can be taxable.

So, even if you don't think y

Before you feel personally attacked, I'm NOT telling you to never use the Ask My Accountant category...

It's totally okay (and normal) to be unsure about where a certain expense belongs!

But before you hit Save + Close on that expense, I want you to add some sort of context in the memo section.

This gives your accountant something to go off of (and helps you remember why you were confused when they ask you about it 8 months from now!).

A memo as simple as "I bought a new cell phone, but I use it for both business + personal things" does the trick!

And if you want to skip stressing over how to categorize ~any~ transactions? Let me be your bookkeeper! πŸ‘‹

Not all "tax strategies" you see on social media are endorsed by yours truly (a tax advisor who actually helps business owner with taxes on the daily).

But the tax strategy on slide 4?

I'm giving that one a 980000/10 all day every day! 😏

Trying to recreate your entire 2026 mileage log by triangulating your trips from your Google Maps and calendar? πŸ”

Do this instead ↓

πŸ“² Download a mileage app like Everlance or MileIQ.

They automatically track all your trips! Each week, you can go in and categorize whether they were for a personal errand or a legitimate business purpose.

More of a pen + paper [your niche]? ✍️

That's totally fine! For each trip, write down these things:

β†’ The date
β†’ Starting location + destination
β†’ Total business miles
β†’ Specific business purpose
β†’ Which vehicle you drove (if you drive multiple)

Whatever you do, the IRS wants you to keep a ~timely~ log, so make time for a 5-minute mileage review in your calendar each week. πŸ“†
