Tax Extenders -

Last Friday, December 19th, President Obama signed into law HR 5771 – Tax Increase Prevention Act of 2014. This law extended for another year the expiration date of popular tax benefits that expired on 12/31/13. So, the 2014 tax planning estimates will have to be revised for application of the extended provisions. The most popular tax provisions now scheduled to expire at the end of 2014 are:

• Sales tax deduction generally applicable to individuals living in a state with no income tax.
•Deduction for qualified tuition and related expenses.
•Business tax credit for increasing research activities.
•Tax exemption for IRA distributions contributed directly to charities.
•50% bonus depreciation for new business property.
•Expensing allowance for business assets, computer software, and certain restaurant and retail improvement property to $500,000.
•Tax credits for residential energy efficiency improvements.

Be sure to let us know if you need more specific details on these extended tax provisions, and how these provisions apply to your circumstances.
