Your security matters to us, and we want to make you aware of a phone and text messaging scam called the *21 scam that’s becoming more common. Scammers use this tactic to quietly redirect calls and messages so they can try to access your accounts.

What to Watch For
A scammer contacts you pretending to be your bank, mobile provider, or another trusted company.
They create urgency by claiming there’s a problem with your account, suspicious activity, or a missed delivery.
You are instructed to “fix” the issue by dialing a code such as **21* followed by a 10 digit number.
Dialing the **21* code forwards your calls and text messages to the scammer.
The scammer intercepts one-time passcodes and reset passwords to access to your accounts.

How to Protect Yourself
Never follow instructions from unsolicited callers or dial codes provided during unexpected calls.
Be cautious of messages or calls that create a false sense of urgency.
Verify the caller’s identity by hanging up and contacting the company directly using an official phone number.
Consider blocking or silencing calls from unknown numbers using your phone’s settings.

Steps to Take if You’re
Impacted by the *21 Scam
Immediately disable call forwarding. On many networks, dialing # #21 # will deactivate it, or you can contact your provider for assistance from another phone.
Change all account passwords right away.
Enable two-factor authentication (preferably using an authenticator app).
Contact us and any other financial institutions impacted to report the fraud and secure your accounts.
