Attention Employers: New EFTPS Login Process
EFTPS now requires us to create a LOGIN.GOV or ID.ME account in order to get to the EFTPS login screen we are used to. Both services work but I found LOGIN.GOV is easier to set up. Alternatively, you can pay via phone by calling 1.800.555.3453 and follow the prompts (see photo).

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency said tax forms for those who received unemployment benefits are now available online.

The American Rescue Plan made changes to the child tax and child care credits for 2021. The child tax credit was increased and will be advanced in monthly payments starting July 15. You can opt out of the monthly payments or notify the IRS of a new child by following the link below. The child care credit was also increased and the income limitations increased. Update to 2020 unemployment exclusion: The IRS announced they will automatically adjust and send refunds for the unemployment exclusion starting in May.

Included in the American Rescue Plan signed into law today is an exemption of $10,200 of unemployment benefits received in 2020 and changes to the Advanced Premium Tax Credit Repayment. If you are one of the millions who have already filed your 2020 taxes, it is currently unclear if you will need to amend or if the IRS will be able to adjust the returns. We are watching for guidance and will know more in the next week or two.

Did you receive a stimulus check and wondering about tax consequences? It's actually just an advance payment of a tax credit that will be reconciled on your 2020 tax return. It will not be taxable income, and if you should have received it but didn't, that will be fixed when you file.
