"Since the War began on Feb 27th, the S&P 500 (black) is up 7.34%. But the S&P 500 without AI stocks (blue) is effectively unchanged. So, the entire S&P 500 Index rally since February has been driven by AI stocks.

But look at what happened on Friday, June 5th!

The S&P 500 was down 2.6%, its biggest daily loss since last October.

The S&P 500 without AI was up 0.02% (call it unchanged).

So, the entire sell-off on Friday was AI stocks. The "normal world" did nothing on Friday." - James Bianco

Why is parenting easier on the road?

Last month Elise got called up for 90 days of military duty, so what started as a weekend trip turned into 4,700 miles, 72 hours of driving, and at least 10 pounds gained.

The surprising part? Solo parenting was easier from the road.

At home, everyone is headed in a different direction. School, activities, chores, projects, appointments, and a hundred little distractions.

Life on the road was simple: get to the next stop and make some memories.

We were all heading in the same direction.

I'm not sure what to do with that observation yet, but I've been thinking about it ever since we got home.

Quick thought during tax season…

A lot of clients end up acting as the go-between for their adviser and their CPA. I’ve been in this business since 2014, and I’ve kept coming back to the same thought:

There has to be a better way.

Forwarding emails.
Repeating information.
Trying to make sure nothing gets missed.

That’s not how it should work.

It’s actually what led to the research I just had published in the Journal of Financial Planning.

The main idea is simple:
Good people + good intentions isn’t enough.
Without structure, coordination falls apart… and the client feels it first.

Tax season just makes the pain obvious.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re the one holding everything together, I’d be curious to hear your experience.

No state income tax by 2032?? Anyone else want a pay raise?

Does Missouri have Texas shaking in its boots?

Missouri became the first state to eliminate the state capital gains tax starting in 2025. There is also a proposal to phase out the state income tax, now waiting on Senate approval.

One of my favorite classes at WashU started with a simple question:
If you could build a tax system from scratch, what would you choose?

Missouri is weighing in!

If both of these changes stick, this is not small.

For a lot of people, this is the equivalent of a 4.7% pay raise.
More for anyone with meaningful cap gains.

This matters for:

Business owners planning an exit
Retirees taking distributions
Anyone sitting on appreciated assets

You are already paying federal taxes.
What your state does can change outcomes in a big way.

Too early to call it, but this is worth watching.

Where do you land?

Income tax, flat tax, or sales tax?

You built it… so why leave it on the table?

Business owners don’t lose value because of a bad business…
they lose it in the exit.

We’re putting together a panel to walk through:
• What your business is really worth
• The biggest mistakes owners make when exiting
• How to actually keep more of what you’ve built (after taxes)

If you own a business, whether you’re just getting started, growing, or thinking about an exit someday, this is for you.

Drop “EXIT” below or shoot me a message and I’ll send you the details.

Space is limited. Smaller venue, so make sure you RSVP if you want a seat by 4/30/26
