Kim Spencer, CFP(r) Take the to Financial Independence! My approach may be different from many planners. I plan to be working with them for many years to come.

I take a personal interest in my client's lives, and assist them in any area they wish. Aside from helping them establish, plan and invest for their life goals, I also work with their other partners; attorneys, tax professionals and insurance agents to ensure they have taken care of all aspects of their financial life.. Another area that's important to me is education; and to that end, I offer se

minars covering different aspects of finance, from senior scams to women and finance, both to my clients and to the community.I also teach Financial Planning for Divorce through UT's Non Credit Program. My clients become part of my family, and one of my greatest joys is working with multiple generations within the same families.

I've asked a lot of clients over the years what they would go back and change if they could. The answer is almost always the same, and it might be simpler than you'd expect.

Watch to find out what they wish they'd known sooner. 🌱

International Self-Care Day is a good reminder that taking care of yourself goes beyond spa days, although there's certainly nothing wrong with those!

Real self-care also looks like knowing your numbers, understanding what's coming in, what's going out, and whether you're on track for the future you want. That kind of clarity is one of the most calming things you will ever experience.

If your financial picture feels more stressful than peaceful, that's worth paying attention to. I'd love to help. Visit yourplacetoflourish.com. 🌱

This week's Ask Kim comes from a mom who feels like she's run out of time to save for her kids' college. With one starting high school and one in middle school, she's wondering if it's even worth starting now, or if loans are just the inevitable answer.

It's a question I hear more than you might think, and the answer might offer more hope than she expects.

For families in our area, back to school is almost here. Alcoa City Schools start back next week, and the expenses add up fast.

A few things worth thinking about now: make a list and set a firm budget before you shop, and check what you already have first. And if grandparents are asking how they can help, gift cards to specific stores are always a practical answer.

One more thing worth knowing: Tennessee's tax-free weekend runs July 31 through August 2, covering clothing, school and art supplies, and computers. If you can wait on bigger purchases, that's real savings.

A little planning now makes the transition a lot smoother. 🌱

Divorce is one of the hardest transitions anyone faces, and financial preparation matters. In this video, I'm sharing the single most important step I advise stay-at-home parents to take before divorce begins.

Summer has a way of quietly stretching your budget. Between vacations, weekend plans, and energy bills that spike with the heat, it adds up faster than most people expect.

Know your "fun money" number before you commit to plans, not after. Check your utility bills against last summer and adjust your budget accordingly. And if summer expenses are going on a credit card, have a plan to pay it off before fall.

Summer is meant to be enjoyed. A little intention now means you won't be playing catch-up in September.

If you'd like help building a plan that works year-round, I'm here. Visit yourplacetoflourish.com. 🌱

Wishing everyone a happy Fourth of July! This year marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a milestone worth pausing to appreciate.

It took real courage and conviction to sign that document, but the hard work of war and nation-building was still ahead. Turning 13 colonies into a country was no small feat.

If you're looking for a great read on the creation of the Constitution, I recommend "Plain Honest Men" by Richard Beeman.

However you're spending the day, I hope it's full of good food, good people, and a little well-earned rest. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸŒ±

This week's Ask Kim comes from a couple in their early thirties who just paid off their student loans.

First of all, that is a big deal. Now they have breathing room in their budget for the first time and they're asking the question I love most: what do we do next?

If you've ever felt behind or unsure where to start, this one is for you.

Yesterday afternoon was so meaningful. A group of Leadership Blount alumni gathered at Hatcher's On Target Barbecue for the 2nd Annual Leadership Blount Homecoming, and one of the highlights was taking time to write cards of encouragement for the men and women deployed with the 134th Air Refueling Wing, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base .

It doesn't take much to let someone know they're remembered and appreciated. I'm grateful to have been part of making it happen. 🌱

One of the most common concerns I hear from clients in retirement is making sure the money lasts. A few things that often get overlooked:

πŸ’™ Review your Medicare coverage annually. Your health needs change, and so do plan benefits. Switching during open enrollment can mean real savings.

πŸ’™ Look at your withdrawal strategy. The order in which you draw from taxable, tax-deferred, and tax-free accounts can significantly affect how long your money lasts and what you owe in taxes.

πŸ’™ Don't ignore Social Security timing. Waiting even a year or two can meaningfully increase your monthly benefit for life.

πŸ’™ Check for benefits you may qualify for. Many seniors are unaware of state and local programs covering utilities, prescriptions, and property tax relief.

A little attention to these details can make a bigger difference than most people realize. Reach out at yourplacetoflourish.com if you'd like to talk through your own retirement picture. 🌱
