What Are 1099 Forms?
1099 forms report non-employee income to the IRS. If your business paid $600+ to contractors, freelancers, or others in 2025, you likely need to issue one.

Most Common Types:
-1099-NEC: Nonemployee Compensation (e.g., payments to independent contractors, freelancers)
-1099-MISC: Miscellaneous income (e.g., rent, royalties, prizes, attorney fees)

Who Must Issue 1099s?
-Businesses (including nonprofits) that pay $600+ in the year for services to: Individuals
-Partnerships/LLCs
-Some corporations (e.g., attorneys)

Key Deadlines for 2025 Payments (Filing in 2026):
-Send to recipients: February 2, 2026 (most forms)
-File with IRS: 1099-NEC: February 2, 2026 (paper or e-file)
