When we ask our boss for a lunch break during the pandemic.

Everyone knows 2x2 and 2+2 both equal four but do you know:A x B x C = A+B+C ?

Client and general FYI. The new tax deadline is July 15th, 2020. NOTHING has to be done by April 15th. An extension isn’t and doesn’t need to be filed by April 15th.

If you are going to owe, you won’t owe anything until July 15th. That’s when penalties and interest will begin to accrue. If you are currently on a payment plan or owe, the IRS has suspended all payments and interest.

We apologize for any delays in processing your return and appreciate your understanding. Our staff has been reduced due to the pandemic and we’ve spent the last two weeks dealing with SBA and Disaster relief questions.

Rest assured we are processing the returns as efficiently as possible but don’t stress about an April 15th date. That date is meaningless for 2020.

Just a little FYI since a number of clients are asking. If you are 17+ and you were claimed on your parents tax return, you will not receive a stimulus check. This includes college students.

We are waiting for more clarification but if you don’t receive a check but should have qualified, it sounds like you’ll be able to claim it to add on the return you file in 2021. This is in cases where the IRS doesn’t have your direct deposit information or a correct current address.

If you are tempted to amend your 2018 tax return to try qualify, there’s VERY little chance it will be processed in time.

We know a lot of our clients are going to have questions about the stimulus package. At this point we know what you do. What we don’t know is the details. This includes:

Is the direct payment “free money” or is it a 2020 refund advance, as has been discussed.

They say that if you use your SBA loan for payroll, then it’s a “grant, but we don’t know the guidelines for these loans and each bank might be different.

I’m sure we’ll get a little more details directly from the IRS and our tax preparer associations in the next couple days. You can go to IRS.gov to monitor future alerts as well.
