After 1-Year of Employment at IFI and Being Part of the Delivery Team: "I knew I wanted to be a part of IFI when I met the team during the interview process. Not only was everyone kind and helpful during that time, but they showed trust and understanding of my experience and technical knowledge. When meeting with IFI, they were not hesitant to share about joining a smaller team, which translates to working across roles, and provides lots of learning opportunities. 60/40 is history. Why is your tech stack stuck there via Addepar: https://tinyurl.com/48ymyxhd. "The traditional 60/40 allocation was never going to be the final word in institutional investing.

For decades, bonds served as the institutional anchor: steady cash flow, a hedge against equity drawdowns and a reliable source of portfolio liquidity. This approach was predictable and, for a long time, it worked.

When David Swensen became the Yale endowment manager in 1985, he made a case that would completely reshape the way institutions thought about capital allocation. He suggested that allocators with a long time horizon did not need the liquidity of a traditional portfolio. And by accepting illiquidity, they could access something the traditional markets didn't offer: a premium over competition, exposure to high-growth companies before they went public, and return dispersion that skilled managers could exploit. Swensen grew Yale's endowment from $1.3 billion to over $40 billion during his 36-year tenure.

The market took notice. What started as an experiment at Yale turned into an institutional standard. Endowments, foundations, pensions and the investors that represented them began building portfolios around private markets, in a deliberate hunt for alpha that public markets increasingly struggled to offer."

Before transitioning into systems implementations, Amy held corporate finance roles across a variety of private-sector industries. Throughout her career, she has partnered with clients in professional services, wholesale distribution, private equity, nonprofit organizations, and family offices, helping them achieve greater efficiency and success.

Factor in external data, not just historical trends
Many finance teams rely solely on historical data and linear analysis when building annual financial forecasts. The problem is that those forecasts can become irrelevant within months, whether due to market volatility, shifts in consumer behavior, or conditions no one saw coming.

As McKinsey Partner, Ankur Agrawal, puts it, finance teams are often not explicitly discussing how external factors and impending market shifts could affect forecasts. The pandemic made this painfully clear for organizations that had built their projections entirely on prior-year performance.

A stronger approach combines internal data with external signals and end-market trends.
