The IRS will never call, text, or email you about making a payment. So please, never give your account information to anyone over the phone.
Please note that scammers often use applications that hide their phone number and often times will show a local tax office number instead but please remember, no matter what, the IRS will never call you to collect a payment.
Once money is transferred it is highly unlikely to ever be returned. It becomes a 100% loss on the taxpayer/consumer.
Because scammers have seen that their scare tactics work, they love the vulnerable. They are so clever that often times it takes them less than 5 minutes to convince individuals to transfer a payment to them or give them access to their account.
