If it feels like markets are moving on every headline lately… you’re not imagining it.
The goal isn’t to predict the next headline. It’s to stay disciplined: diversify, focus on long-term outcomes, and avoid emotional pivots.

LPL’s latest market commentary: https://www.lpl.com/research/weekly-market-commentary/the-economy-takes-multiple-shocks-in-stride.html

The takeaway: stay diversified, stay disciplined, and don’t let short-term volatility force long-term decisions.

Discover why the economy remains resilient despite trade, immigration, and geopolitical shocks. LPL Research breaks down the latest market volatility trends.

Headlines are loud. Long-term investing is quieter — and historically, it’s been rewarded. These charts are a good reminder: despite wars, recessions, and headline shocks, disciplined investors have often been rewarded over time. Geopolitical spikes feel like they should derail markets, yet 12 months later returns have often been positive more often than not — and some of the most iconic companies were founded during periods of high unemployment.

So the real question: Are today’s headlines a reason to change strategy… or a reason to tighten the process and stay disciplined?

Fed decision + oil headlines = noisy week. Here’s the signal.
The Fed held rates steady again. Cuts are still on the table later this year, but timing is the big unknown as policymakers keep watching inflation and growth.

Meanwhile, higher oil prices add complexity—but the U.S. is less oil-dependent than decades past and is now a net exporter, which can soften the blow. The catch: duration matters. A brief spike is mostly headline risk; a sustained move higher is what can start to change the inflation/growth outlook.

Two storylines are colliding:

•Kudlow’s case: the oil spike is largely a war-risk/insurance premium problem, and a new U.S. maritime reinsurance backstop (reported up to ~$20B) could help get tankers moving and cool prices.
•The risk case: reports say Iran has begun laying mines in/near the strait, which could keep that premium elevated and raise volatility even if supply is ample.

Bottom line: if transit normalizes, oil can retrace quickly. If disruptions persist, energy-driven inflation and “risk-off” sentiment stay in play.

Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important energy chokepoint that carries about one-fifth of all crude oil, according to two people familiar with US intelligence reporting on the issue.

Renewed Middle East tensions are putting a spotlight on energy prices—and what that can mean for inflation, rates, and short-term market volatility.

Historically, markets often absorb geopolitical shocks. The bigger risk is when disruptions drag on and start spilling into growth and pricing.

So the real question isn’t “should I react?”—it’s: is my portfolio built for headline risk?
