Quick bookkeeping tip for small business owners:
If you’re not reconciling your bank accounts monthly, your numbers may not be accurate even if everything “looks fine.”
I’ve seen this lead to missed expenses, duplicate income, and confusion at tax time.
A simple monthly reconciliation keeps everything clean, accurate, and stress-free when it matters most.
If you’re not sure whether your books are fully up to date, I’m happy to take a quick look and point you in the right direction.

Know your taxes!

FYI - if you have 1099 or self-employment income and some of it is from tips and prepare your own taxes, you may run into software limitations with claiming the Qualified Tip Deduction for 2025.

You do NOT need a 1099 with the tip deduction on it to claim it for last year. You need better software. Go to a tax pro who can enter the deduction for you.

🚨 Business Owners — Read This Before Tax Season Gets Real 🚨
The Internal Revenue Service can see when large personal payments are being run through your business account. Period.
Things like:
• Rent or mortgage payments
• Car notes
• Insurance
• Household bills
• Personal expenses
👉 These are NOT business deductions just because they were paid with a business card.
When this happens, the IRS will reclassify those transactions as owner draws or payroll, not business expenses — and that leads to:
❌ Disallowed deductions
❌ Back taxes
❌ Penalties and interest
If it’s personal, treat it as personal. Pay yourself correctly. Categorize it correctly. Document it properly.
Otherwise, you’re not being strategic — you’re waving red flags and clutching pearls when that audit letter shows up.
💡 Clean books protect your money.
💡 Proper structure protects your business.

🚨 YES A TAX RETURN CAN LEGALLY COST $1,000+
🚨 NO THAT DOES NOT MAKE IT A SCAM
Before the internet gets loud and wrong, let’s be clear 📢
🧾 The IRS does NOT cap tax preparation fees
❌ There is no law saying a return must cost $200, $300, or what someone else paid
💡 Tax preparation fees are based on:
📌 Complexity of the return
⏱️ Time required
⚠️ Risk assumed
🎓 Experience & expertise
🏢 Business / self-employment filings
💳 Credits claimed
📋 Compliance & due diligence
🔍 Audit exposure
🛡️ Legal liability the preparer takes on
👉🏽 A basic W-2 with no dependents ≠
👉🏽 Multiple incomes, self-employment, credit eligibility, reconciliations, transcripts, and compliance reviews
⚠️ The same people questioning professional fees
are often the first ones panicking when:
🚩 The IRS audits the return
⏸️ Refunds are frozen or delayed
↩️ Credits are reversed
💸 Or thousands are owed back
💬 Low-cost preparation often leads to high-cost problems
📌 You’re not paying for a number on a screen
You’re paying for:
✅ Accuracy
📑 Documentation
📏 Compliance
🧠 Experience
📬 And a preparer who stands behind the work when IRS letters show up
💎 All returns are NOT the same
💎 All preparers are NOT equal
💎 And all money is NOT good money
If you’re looking for cheap there are options
If you’re looking for CORRECT choose wisely ✨
🎯 Education over drama
🎯 Facts over feelings

Quick question for business owners as we head toward the end of the year.
When it comes to your books right now, where would you honestly say you fall?
Are you fully caught up and confident in your numbers ?
Mostly caught up but still missing a few things ?
Or avoiding the books altogether and hoping tax season works itself out ?
No judgment here because I see all three every single day.
Ending the year with organized financials makes next year so much easier. Less stress. Better decisions. And way more clarity when tax season comes around.
Curious where everyone is landing right now. Drop a comment and let’s talk about it.

Hey y’all! With tax season creeping up, here are a few quick bookkeeping reminders that’ll save you stress (and money 😅):

1. Reconcile everything now.
Bank, credit card, PayPal, Square. Make sure every account matches what’s in your accounting software.

2. Categorize your expenses correctly.
No more “Ask My Accountant” piles. Clean them up so your tax deductions are accurate.

3. Track mileage + home office.
If you’re eligible, these add up fast. Don’t leave money on the table.

4. Double-check sales tax + 1099s.
Make sure you collected what you should’ve and that vendor payments are marked correctly.

5. Run a Profit & Loss + Balance Sheet.
If something looks weird now, fix it before your tax professional sees it 😂

Tax season gets messy, but staying on top of it now makes going into 2026 way easier. If anyone has questions, we have availability. 🙌
