Commitment issues, daddy issues … but mostly trust issues – Americans’ trust in one another’s democratic judgment has fallen to a more than 50-yr low, with just 51% expressing a great deal or fair amount of trust, according to Gallup. That’s down from 86% in 1976 and 78% in 2005, with remarkably similar levels today across party lines: 53% of Democrats, 51% of Republicans, and 49% of independents. (Source: Axios)

Apparently, we’re all in need of our fae fix – Bloomsbury’s adjusted pre-tax profit fell 30% in the first ½ of its fiscal yr, but the publisher is still forecasting record full-yr results thanks to 2 new Sarah J. Mass books. There’s precedent for that optimism: In fiscal 2024, sales of Maas’s books surged 161%, helping Bloomsbury achieve what were then the highest revenue and profit in its 37-yr history. The Great Pumpkin has been real quiet lately – A Rhode Island grower may have smashed the world record for the heaviest pumpkin with a 3,156-pound gourd, nearly 300 pounds heavier than the current 2,857-pound record set just a week earlier in England. The pumpkin is awaiting official verification from Guinness World Records, and its grower took home $3,500 from the local competition.

Wow, that w**e order is sure taking a long time – Archaeologists discovered remnants of a shipwreck off the coast of Turkey that may date back as far as 4,700 years, around the time Egypt’s first pyramids were being built. More than 30 ceramic jars were found at the site, some still containing residue from the olive oil or w**e the ship may have been carrying across the Mediterranean. (Source: Smithsonian Magazine)
