Taxpayers who received Advanced Child Tax Credit payments and/or the third Economic Impact Payment should be on the look out for information letters from the IRS that will be needed to accurately prepare your 2021 individual income tax return.

The Advanced Child Tax Credit letter will be identified as Letter 6419, 2021 Advance CTC. Taxpayers that file as Married Filing Jointly will receive two letters because the credit is split between each spouse.

The third Economic Impact Payment letter will be identified as Letter 6475, Your Third Economic Impact Payment.

COVID Tax Tip 2022-03, January 5, 2022 — The IRS started issuing information letters to advance child tax credit recipients in December. Recipients of the third round of the Economic Impact Payments will begin receiving information letters at the end of January.

The IRS has announced that the filing and payment deadline for 2020 personal taxes has been extended to May 17th. Pennsylvania has also extended the filing and payment dates for 2020 personal taxes to May 17th. The first estimated payment for Federal and Pennsylvania taxes for 2021 is still due on April 15th. Please contact us with any questions on how this delay affects your tax situation and with any additional questions about the recent tax law changes in the American Rescue Plan that was signed into law.

The IRS has officially announced that tax payments due on April 15, 2020 have been postponed until July 15, 2020. The postponement is for 2019 taxes due and first quarter estimated payments for 2020. The filing date for your 2019 tax return or extension remains April 15, 2020. Please contact us with any questions related to this updated guidance from the IRS.
