đź’ł Are You Really Getting the Most from Your Credit Card Rewards?

I recently read an interesting article in AAA’s The Extra Mile magazine about choosing the right rewards credit card. It reminded me that the “best” credit card isn’t always the one with the biggest sign-up bonus—it’s the one that matches your financial habits.

Before choosing a rewards card, ask yourself:
✔️ Do you pay your balance in full each month? If not, the interest charges can quickly outweigh any rewards you earn.
✔️ Does the annual fee make sense based on how much you’ll actually use the card?
✔️ Would cash back provide more value than travel points?
✔️ Do the rewards fit your spending habits? For example, do you spend more on groceries, dining, gas, or travel?
✔️ Do you have a plan to redeem your rewards, or are they just sitting unused?
As a CPA, I’ve found that the smartest financial decisions are often the simplest. A credit card should be a tool—not a source of debt. When used responsibly, rewards can be a nice bonus, but they should never encourage spending more than you normally would.

What’s your favorite type of reward—cash back, travel points, or something else?

Cybersecurity is no longer just an IT issue—it’s a financial issue.
Identity theft, phishing attacks, and account takeovers can have serious financial consequences for individuals and businesses alike.

I recently read an excellent article in AAA’s The Extra Mile magazine about common online habits that increase cybersecurity risk. The advice was practical and serves as a good reminder for all of us.

Here are a few best practices worth reviewing:

• Use unique passwords for every account.
• Enable multi-factor authentication.
• Be cautious with links in emails and text messages.
• Review privacy settings on your devices and social media accounts.
• Limit the amount of personal information you share online.
• Beware of public Wi-Fi. Don’t conduct sensitive transactions over public Wi-Fi.

As a CPA, protecting financial information goes beyond tax returns and financial statements. Good cybersecurity practices are an essential part of protecting your personal and business finances.

What cybersecurity practice do you consider most important?

It was a pleasure attending the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce Annual Members’ Dinner and State of the Chamber Address.

Congratulations to the newly installed Board of Directors as they begin a new fiscal year of leadership and service. I wish each of you continued success as you work to strengthen the Prince George’s County business community.

The evening was a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow business leaders, entrepreneurs, elected officials, and community partners who are all committed to the economic growth and prosperity of Prince George’s County. Events like these remind us that strong relationships and collaboration are essential to building thriving businesses and stronger communities.

As the President of CN Accounting & Business Services, I always appreciate opportunities to build new connections, support local businesses, and stay engaged with the initiatives that help move our county forward.

Thank you to the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce for hosting such an outstanding event.
Congratulations again to the new Board!

đź’° Location Matters When It Comes to Taxes!

I recently came across this interesting graphic in the May 2026 edition of Accounting Today highlighting the states with the lowest and highest state and local tax burdens.
While taxes should never be the only factor in deciding where to live or do business, understanding your overall tax burden can play an important role in financial planning, retirement decisions, and business growth strategies.
As a CPA, I often remind clients that it’s not just about how much you earn—it’s also about how much you keep.

And if so…

Could taxpayers actually get that money back?
