“I’m taking inventory of my retirement ‘junk drawer.’”

Would you call this a treat or a trick? 🤔

The answer: TREAT! 🍬

Most of us have a junk drawer at home. A place where odds and ends collect over the years. Your retirement accounts can end up looking a little like that, too!

An old 401(k) from a previous job, an IRA you opened years ago, or a 403(b) you haven’t checked lately can get tucked away and become easy to overlook.

🍬 The treat? Making a list of your retirement accounts, where they’re held, and their approximate balances. Bringing those details together can give you a clearer picture of what you have and a starting point for reviewing how each account fits into your retirement strategy.

You don’t have to move everything, start by knowing what’s in the drawer! 🔍

A Roth conversion isn’t simply moving money from one retirement account to another, it can also create a taxable event today in exchange for different tax treatment later.

A conversion generally involves moving money from a pre-tax retirement account into a Roth IRA. The converted amount is typically included in your taxable income for that year, while qualified Roth IRA withdrawals in retirement can generally be tax-free.

In this week’s Wise Wednesday video, Shawn explains how Roth conversions work, why timing matters and some of the factors to consider before making a decision.🕛

Do you know when a Roth conversion may be worth considering?💭

If you’d like to discuss whether a Roth conversion may fit into your overall retirement strategy, our team is here to help.

“My monthly bills are covered. My retirement budget is complete!”

Would you call this a treat or a trick? 🤔

The answer: TRICK! 👻

Having your monthly bills covered is a great start. But a fuller retirement budget also considers expenses that happen seasonally, occasionally, or unexpectedly.

Think home maintenance, vehicle repairs, out-of-pocket healthcare costs, gifts, and travel.

🍬 The treat? Making room in your retirement budget for occasional expenses like home repairs, travel, and holiday gifts. Setting aside money for these costs can help you prepare beyond your monthly bills with fewer surprises and greater clarity about your spending.
