NO TAX on Tips, Overtime & Car Loan Interest? NOT SO FAST!
You've heard the headlines about "No Tax on Tips," "No Tax on Overtime," and "No Tax on Car Loan Interest." But do you really understand what these new tax provisions mean for your wallet?
Before you assume all your income is tax-free, there are some important details you need to know!
In Episode 3 of 3 Things... with Dr. Tanya, I'm breaking down three major tax provisions under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) and explaining what taxpayers need to understand before filing their returns.
Here's what we're covering:
🔴 1. No Tax on Tips: Eligible workers may deduct up to $25,000 in qualified tip income, subject to income limits and other requirements.
🔴 2. No Tax on Overtime: Eligible taxpayers may deduct up to $12,500 in qualified overtime compensation ($25,000 for married couples filing jointly). But remember, not all overtime earnings qualify!
🔴 3. No Tax on Car Loan Interest: Eligible taxpayers may deduct up to $10,000 in qualifying interest paid on loans for certain new, U.S.-assembled vehicles, subject to income limits and other restrictions.
Here's the BIG takeaway: These provisions are federal income tax deductions, NOT blanket exemptions from all taxes. Eligibility matters, income limits apply, and the fine print can make a significant difference in your tax savings.
