Wow! Here we are again!!

The IRS is going to be mailing out two very important letters to taxpayers. The first is in regards to any advance child tax credit payments received. The second letter is in regards to the third stimulus that was sent out in 2021. Both of these letters are incredibly important for your tax preparer so please, please hold onto them!

**2020 Charitable contribution change**

Filers who typically do not get the benefit of using their contributions due to taking the standard deduction are allowed a deduction of up to $300 (married filing joint/$150 single). The contribution has to be to a qualified organization and you must have documentation to support the deduction.

Unfortunately there has been a lot of identity theft in fraudulent unemployment claims filed. If you receive a 1099G and did not file for unemployment benefits, file a report online at unemployment.ohio.gov. Click on the red button that says report identity theft. Keep a copy of the form filed. You will not be responsible for paying taxes on that income.

Happy New Year!

Jot down your year end miles for those of you who are self employed 🚗

You will need to provide your tax preparer with the dollar value of the economic impact payment received. Everyone received a letter after the check, but who kept it?? You might want to look into your records and jot that number down...

**UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS ARE TAXABLE **

If you received unemployment benefits including the cares act bonus amount, it will be included in your income and may be taxable. People who receive these benefits should check their withholdings to make sure that they are prepared for the end of the year.

A lot has been happening so we wanted to post the latest info...

Stimulus checks are expected to start going out the week of April 13. Payments will be automatically deposited into accounts reflected on 2018 or 2019 income tax returns filed.

The first wave is planned for taxpayers with direct deposit information on file. Paper checks would start going out in May to people who do not have direct deposit information on file with the IRS. People with lowest incomes will get their checks first.

There are no income requirements for the stimulus but there are phaseouts limitations. Eligible taxpayers who filed returns for either 2018 or 2019 will automatically receive a payment of up to $1200 for individuals or $2400 for married couples and up to $500 for each qualified child.

There are constant updates and we will try to keep you informed.
