We get asked almost every day, “How did the idea for Safe Haven Play Cafe come about?”
The truth is… Safe Haven wasn’t created because we wanted to open a business.
It was created because we needed it ourselves.
For years, we served our community as paramedics. We answered 911 calls, walked into people’s worst moments, celebrated life’s miracles, and carried the weight of tragedies home with us. Serving others wasn’t just our job. It became part of who we were.
Then life changed.
We stepped away from the ambulance to be more present for our children, and suddenly we found ourselves searching for something we couldn’t find.
A place where our kids could laugh until their cheeks hurt.
A place where parents didn’t have to rush in and rush out.
A place where a mom sitting alone could become a friend.
A place where dads could make memories.
A place where grandparents could watch little imaginations come to life.
A place that simply felt… safe.
As we talked with other parents, we realized we weren’t alone.
So many moms were craving connection in a world that can feel incredibly lonely. They weren’t just looking for somewhere to take their kids. They were looking for their village. A conversation. A smile. A place to belong.
At the same time, we were searching for our own purpose.
When you’ve spent years serving your community, it’s hard to stop serving. We missed making a difference. We missed helping people. We just needed a new way to do it.
That’s when Safe Haven was born.
Not from a business plan.
From a calling.
Today, we may not arrive in an ambulance anymore, but we still wake up every morning with the same mission: to care for our community.
Now, that looks like creating a place where children can play without worry, where parents can breathe for a moment, where friendships are formed over coffee, where birthdays become lifelong memories, and where every family who walks through our doors knows they belong.
If you’ve ever visited Safe Haven, you’ve probably noticed it’s about more than the play equipment or the coffee.
It’s about people.
It’s about community.
It’s about creating the kind of place we wished existed when we needed it most.
