Talk about a role reversal. Christmas Eve the markets dropped like a falling knife, then yesterday (day after Christmas) the markets had their highest one day point gain in history.

While some may see this as a glimmer of hope for a turn around to the upside, be careful not to get caught in a potential trap.

A likely reason for this sudden burst of buying may be attributed to a “dead cat bounce”.

This can occur after a long sharp decline in price when investors who have been “shorting” (strategy of selling borrowed positions to profit as prices fall) begin to “cover” ... meaning they must buy their positions back to exit the short positions and take profits off the table. So what may be seen to the untrained eye as buyers coming back into the markets is often just sellers closing out their positions.

We are still in a bear trend and that is the overriding consensus at this point. A few more days like yesterday could help change this sentiment but until this occurs, stay safe.

Oh, and why is called a “dead cat bounce”? Because even a dead cat will bounce if you drop it from a high enough level.

I didn’t make this term up so cat lovers don’t punish the messenger! Lol

The holiday season is filled with chaotic excitement, decorating bliss, social gatherings, and family fun. It’s a time to remember the reason for the season and look beyond ourselves to give cheerfully to others.

The holidays can also be a time of sadness for those who have lost loved ones, experienced sickness, or endured hardships.

This year we are challenging ourselves to reciprocate an act of kindness to someone in need or a total stranger for every gift received. .

Passing along something as simple as a smile has the power to change someone’s day. .

Be thankful for what you have and pay your blessings forward this coming year. Live above and beyond your potential and create a ripple that can turn into a tidal wave. Understand the impact you can have on others. .

From our family to yours, we wish you a blessed holiday season over flowing with good tidings and joy! .
