Who gave summer permission to fly by this fast??

Winter hangs around like an unwanted houseguest, but summer? It shows up, says hello, and immediately starts packing its bags.

One weekend we’re floating down the river, living our best lives…

The next I’m getting emails to complete college forms and buying dorm supplies.

Excuse me… wasn’t it just June??

Life has a sneaky way of doing that.

And unfortunately, our finances aren’t any different.

We keep saying we’ll “get around to” increasing our retirement savings. We’ll update our estate plan… eventually. We’ll schedule that meeting with a financial advisor… someday.

Then one day you look in the mirror and realize retirement isn’t some far-off thing anymore.

Rude.

The good news? You don’t need a time machine. You just need to start.

Your future self isn’t expecting perfection. She’ll be thrilled that you finally quit saying “I’ll do it later.”

Now if someone could figure out how to make July last about six months, I’d appreciate it.

Today’s post is inspired by a cherry red Toyota Solara convertible.

As I was driving behind it, I caught myself thinking about all the reasons I would never own a convertible.

What if the top gets stuck and won’t go back up? That sounds expensive.

My hair would be a disaster.

It’s just not practical.

And then it hit me… I am an extremely logical and practical person.

Most of the time, that’s a good thing. It serves me well in my career and in the financial advice I give my clients. I spend my days talking about best practices, smart decisions, efficiencies, and long-term planning.

Those things matter.

But sometimes practicality can crowd out something that’s just as important…

Joy.

Yes, we should work hard. We should save. We should invest wisely and make thoughtful decisions with our money.

But we should also enjoy it.

Take the trip. Buy the concert tickets. Go out for the nice dinner. Create memories with the people you love.

Money isn’t just about building a future. It’s also about living a life.

So today, my reminder isn’t just for you. It’s for me too.

Maybe every now and then we all need a little more “convertible” in our lives.

What does financial freedom actually look like?

So many people think it means:

* Retiring early
* Millions in the bank
* Never worrying again

But maybe financial freedom is:

* Taking a vacation without guilt.
* Helping your kids through college.
* Sleeping at night knowing you’re okay.
* Saying yes to experiences instead of constantly worrying about bills.

Financial freedom looks different for everyone. That’s why financial planning isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Funny how much things change…

When I was younger, the 4th of July was all about finding the biggest party, the biggest crowd, and the most excitement.

Now? Give me family, good food, a lawn chair, and nowhere I have to be. 😊

This year was extra special because my in-laws are visiting from South Africa. We hadn’t seen them in four years, and we never know when they’ll be able to make the trip back. That makes every conversation, every meal, and every laugh together mean just a little more.

It’s funny how life changes your perspective. The things that once seemed so important slowly get replaced by simply being with the people you love.

However you spent your 4th—at a party, watching fireworks, out on the lake, or just hanging out at home—I hope it was a wonderful day filled with the people who matter most.

So… I’ve been in a bit of a season of discouragement lately.

Some days, your brain just gets stuck in a cycle of negativity, and no matter how hard you try, it’s tough to climb back out.

That was me this week.

I had pretty much claimed a permanent seat on the struggle bus. 😂

Then Tuesday happened.

I had two client meetings, and somewhere in the middle of those conversations, I remembered my why.

I get to walk alongside people during some of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. I get to help ease worries, create plans, celebrate wins, and hopefully leave people feeling a little more confident than when they walked in.

That’s a pretty incredible gift.

The funny part is… my clients thought I was helping them.

And I was.

But what they didn’t know is that they were helping me too.

They reminded me why I love what I do. They reminded me that this work matters. And they reminded me that sometimes the best way to get out of our own heads is to pour into someone else.

So today, I’m grateful.

Grateful for my clients. Grateful for the work I get to do. And grateful for the reminder that sometimes all it takes is reconnecting with your why.

I hope you find that reminder today too. ❤️

Gotta be honest here..

Discouragement is a beast.

It has a way of making you question things you were completely confident about just a week ago.

Am I doing enough?
Does any of this even matter?
Should I just quit?

The funny thing is, nothing may have actually changed except your mindset.

I’ve learned that discouragement rarely shows up with a big announcement. It sneaks in after a tough day, a disappointment, or when things just aren’t happening as quickly as you’d hoped.

I’ve been there lately.

What I’m trying to remind myself is that feelings aren’t facts.

One hard season doesn’t erase years of progress.
One setback doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong path.
One disappointing moment doesn’t get to define your future.

So today, instead of worrying about the whole mountain, I’m just focusing on the next step.

Show up.
Do the work.
Be kind.
Trust the process.
Repeat tomorrow.

Sometimes that’s enough.

If you’ve been feeling discouraged lately, you’re not alone. Keep going. You never know what might be waiting just around the corner if you don’t quit.

How did we get here?

My son is getting married.
My daughter is getting ready to leave for college.
My youngest will be a junior in high school.
My husband and I are on the brink of becoming empty nesters.

It honestly feels like yesterday they were little.

My mom used to always say, “The older you get, the faster time goes.” I used to think she was just saying that.

Turns out… she was right.

Life has a way of speeding up. Between work, family, responsibilities, and all the little things that fill our days, somehow the years just disappear.

And of course, I’m going to tie this back to money.

When we’re young, retirement feels so far away that it’s easy to put it off. There always seems to be something more urgent to spend money on.

Then one day you look around and realize you’re closer to retirement than you are to high school.

Time doesn’t slow down.

So while you’re busy building a life, don’t forget to prepare for the day you’ll finally get to enjoy it.

Because retirement will come someday—whether by choice or by necessity.

And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this…

The years ahead are going to pass just as quickly as the years behind you.

My baby is officially a world traveler. ❤️

It’s hard to put into words how proud I am of my daughter.

At 16, she decided she wanted to travel to Europe. So she worked every hour she could, helped with bake sale fundraisers, and stayed focused on her goal. She earned this trip.

This month, that dream became reality as she traveled through France and Greece with a group of students.

When she got home, she said she couldn’t believe how beautiful the world God created is. ❤️ And of course… now she wants to travel even more.

As her mom, I hope someday we get to explore the world together.

More than anything, this was a reminder that dreams don’t just happen. They take hard work, sacrifice, and intentional choices.

I’m so proud of the young woman she’s becoming. Keep dreaming big, kiddo. The world is waiting for you.

About a month ago, I had the opportunity to speak to a class at UNOH about financial planning for entrepreneurs.

The whole class was fantastic, but one student really stuck with me.

Macie Antle is pursuing a career in the high-performance automotive world—a field that’s still heavily male-dominated. But what impressed me even more than that was her passion.

I had the privilege of judging her business plan, and her vision is to create hands-on workshops that introduce women and girls to the world of high-performance automotive and racing.

As someone who’s passionate about helping women succeed in spaces where they’ve traditionally been underrepresented, this one hit home.

So if you’re in the racing or high-performance automotive community, connect with Macie. Encourage her. Mentor her. Help her bring this vision to life.

I have no doubt she’s going to do amazing things.

Ever notice how “later” has a way of becoming next month, next year, or sometimes never?

I see it all the time when it comes to finances.

We put off:
💰 Increasing retirement contributions

💰 Updating beneficiaries

💰 Creating a will

💰 Paying off debt

💰 Having important money conversations

The funny thing is, avoidance feels free.

It doesn’t cost us anything today.

But over time, it can become one of the most expensive financial habits we have.

The cost isn’t always dollars and cents.

Sometimes it’s missed opportunities.

Sometimes it’s added stress.

Sometimes it’s leaving our loved ones unprepared.
